Advanced French Grammar dives into the the most difficult aspects of French grammar. I think the chapter on the subjunctive and the distinction between “c’est” and “il est” are worth the price of the book.

This book, if you can make your way through its high level of difficulty, will answer all your questions about the picky points of French Grammar. Some of language-freaks have to have the rules spelled out to us. This book and the others in the ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ series succeed in doing just that.

After getting stuck at an advanced intermediate level of French, this book is exactly what I need. I’ve even spent a lot of time with native professional tutors who couldn’t begin to explain subtleties like which preposition to use with each verb or the mysteries of pronouns (ce qui, tout ce qui, ce, cela – does anyone really know which one to use?) because it’s just too instinctive for them. And there are enough examples that I can read and reread them until the rules really sink in.

Having taught for 30 years on the secondary level through the AP course in the French language I am glad to have a reference to use now and again when I think of a question that needs some clarification either for my “cercle” group or when, in the future I may be asked by my granddaughters.

Well-written and clear. The exercises are quite challenging. Good review of practical French grammar for those with solid fundamental knowledge of French. Its main advantage is that it enables the speaker to say things in many ways. I think it enhanced the flexibility of my writing and speaking. Not a book for those learning French for the first time, but an excellent review for those firm in the basics.

I found this to be an excellent review of the finer points of French grammar. There was much I did not know, and what I did already know was presented in a an easy to read fashion for review. I showed it to my French tutor and he was enthusiastic also. Plus it’s not very expensive.
