I really like this English-Vietnamese dictionary so much that I bought three more to give to each of my wife’s family who have immigrated from Vietnam in the past few years. I love just looking at the pictures and then seeing both the English and Vietnamese words identifying the objects on the page by looking at the object’s number below that has what it is in both languages. There are indexes in the back of the book in both languages so if you know the name of something, you can see what page it is on and find out what it is called in the other language. Very help

This book has clear pictures and it is well laid out. However, it would be of limited use for someone who doesn’t know the English (or Arabic) alphabet and sounds. It would also help to have a phonetic translation in both languages. But, it’s a great lexicon for intermediate speakers and a good communication tool for novices as it shows a lot of common things that someone might encounter.

I think there’s no better dictionary than this for people learning English. It’s more than an average dictionary. It really shows you the meaning of the words with beautiful and clear graphics and much more. I purchased this for Portuguese speaking learners, but it’s available in many others languages.

Maybe the header and discription need some changes.

It should read,, for English speaking students of French. The title on the book is correct on the page header but the rest of the header is backwards. One of my caregivers speaks French and wants to learn English. The second half of the header, the discription lead me to believe this is what I was looking for as did the reviews but he needs French indexed where this is English indexed. Great book however. If I could speak I would use it to learn French.

Excellent Quick Reference

I bought this for a friend who speaks Portuguese and is trying to learn English. Very good buy for the money. Excellent daily reference for acclimating to her new country (USA). Pictures and both languages. Highly Recommend.

I really like this book. It may not be 100% accurate, but it allows for very efficient ESL vocabulary building. Of course it’s important to try to use the all English version, but I have a student who came all the way to the US from Tokyo for just 25 days. He is doing over 60 hours of ESL in that time and needs to maximize results, so this OPD version is great! I do, however, think this needs some updating on the tech side, i.e. smartphones, iTunes, WiFi and other IT. I hope Oxford is going to come out with a new version: […]

This is great for our small group class! Our adult students are quicker to learn the English word when they understand what it means in their language. Most of our English as a Second Language (ESL) students are from Hispanic and Oriental countries, but we wanted this book for the one from the Middle East.

Very good. I will take this to Vietnam to teach …

Very good. I will take this to Vietnam to teach English. They have other English books in Hanoi which I will buy. This is a good root source, and I am a retired school teacher with a degree in Reading and English. For teaching English as a second language, one of the researcher said COMPREHENSIBLE INPUT is the most important element in teaching a second language. Matching the visuals with both English and Vietnamese is the best comprehensible input I can find, and especially in this particular book by OXFORD
