What a fun dictionary. I enjoy just looking at the photos and seeing many words that relate to one topic. For example, if you want to know what various parts of a car are called, it’s quite easy to see most of them on a few pages. Also, like the pictures of food with their names. I even recommended it to a French friend to help her with her English. It won’t replace your regular dictionary, but it’s a useful addition.

My husband’s first language is French and no one in his family speaks English except for him. He finally got tired of translating for me and I started taking French classes about a year ago. I already knew basic things like menus and how to say hello and general light conversation.

Don’t try to learn French without this! The organization by categories makes it much more convenient than alphabetical organization would be. Great color pictures. Very useful. FUN – it doesn’t seem like work as you peruse it.

Very pleasant and browsable, a "hit" with my teenager

I ordered this Visual Dictionary for my son based on this High School teacher’s recommendation, along with another “Concise” dictionary which is bigger and has more words. It has been two weeks since we received both of them. He absolutely loves this dictionary, and I often find him sitting down with this book in his spare time. The other dictionary has not been picked-up or used by him yet.

This dictionary is amazing. I just started learning Arabic and this helps immensely. It’s also very fun to just skim through because each word has a picture with it. It makes learning vocabulary enjoyable!!

Highly recommend!

I have the Visual Dictionaries in Arabic, French, and Spanish. I teach English to refugees and immigrants and I find these dictionaries to be a wonderful tool for my students. I give them as presents to share with their families and it seems there’s things in them that everyone can use. I especially enjoy the detail of information on things like tools or car parts . . . my students are learning how to take care of their houses and cars and this vocabulary helps them explain problems to their landlord or mechanic. It helps them gain a useful vocabulary beyond the basics.

Great book!!

This is such a great way to learn the Arabic language. It has photos of everything you can imagine, with the name written in Arabic, phonetically spelled and in English. It’s small, so you can travel with it with ease. If your a visual learner this is the book for you. It has photos of everything, even types of trees and flowers!

Great help for us senior lady tourists!

There was no way my sister and I were going to become suddenly proficient in French! This book was a godsend to help us communicate our needs, and we weren’t shy about admitting our language deficiency. Most of the Parisians we encountered seemed sympathetic to our inability to properly pronounce French (after all, we are just Americans), and found our pointing to the pictures in this dictionary perhaps a bit childish, but definitely helpful. (Then our new acquaintances would teach us the proper pronunciation.) Everyone did seem quite appreciative that we were spending our $$$$, and eager to help us spend more!
